I woke up startled. My heart was beating quickly and my eyes shot open in an instant. The morning confusion had not even had a chance to set in yet. I looked at the alarm clock. It was 6:25 a.m. I listened and I heard nothing. My apartment was quiet and I was all alone.

Be somebody

Today, it is more important than ever to be somebody. What does this mean? It means that you need to exceed expectations. Employers are going to be looking for individuals with upper level degrees, not high school diplomas. There is so much pressure looming over the individuals who have not lost jobs yet. People fear that they may be fired at any second. The businesses that planted their roots deep into the capitalist foundations of America began to find themselves being uprooted. Powerful financial institutions began to crumble. Jobs began to disappear. As the economy leveled off at an all time low many companies found themselves struggling. Automotive giants GM and Chrysler had to be bailed out several times and have now filed for bankruptcy. Other companies struggling to do well are Starbucks, Rite Aid Pharmacy, The New York Times and Sirius Satellite Radio. Due to the fall of many companies in America, the job market is very difficult to approach. Most companies are only hiring internally. Several businesses have cut off benefits for retirees, such as 401k, long term and short term life insurance and health insurance benefits. A lot of companies have lowered wage increase percentages and cut down on overtime. Anybody that currently has a job should be considered lucky. There are no new jobs being created and many jobs in the U.S. are being outsourced in order to save money. What does this mean for individuals who are new to the workforce? This means that you had better be overqualified, for even the easiest of jobs. How can you over qualify yourself? It is important to get higher learning. Go to college and do well. Get the highest level of degree or certification that you can. Employers are no longer looking to hire someone with a high school diploma or an associates degree. An associates degree has become the equivalent of a high school diploma in modern times. Go to school and be somebody. Get an upper level degree and get a job. Unfortunately, our difficult economic times have caused a shift in education and careers.

NASA vs. Colbert

NASA held a contest where individuals could vote on a name for a room in a space station. There were four suggested names given by NASA: Venture, Earthrise, Serenity and Legacy. There was also a space for a write in vote. Early on in the contest the leading name was not any of the four write in votes but Xenu, the god in the Scientology religion. Stephen Colbert jumped into action by asking his Colbert nation to join together and vote for the name Colbert. Within days Colbert was at the top of the list. Recently the contest came to an end. Colbert had become the highest voted name. Stephen Colbert would get a room in a NASA space station named after him. How cool is that? What? What do you mean NASA named it Tranquility? That doesn't sound like Colbert. It appears that NASA holds the right to name the room something more appropriate and Colbert did not make the cut. The room was named after the area on the moon in which Appolo 11 landed, The Sea of Tranquility. NASA made a deal with The Colbert Report host. NASA offered to name a brand new treadmill, which will be used in space by the astronauts, C.O.L.B.E.R.T. The Combined operational load bearing external resistance treadmill will be sent to space in August. Stephen Colbert was invited to NASA to see the launch and to demonstrate the use of the new treadmill. This was a nice offer from NASA but I think Colbert was ripped off. Hmmmm...spacer room or treadmill...lets see... WTF?!

WTF FOX?!

According to a news story on Yahoo, FOX fired a columnist for posting an early review of the "X-Men" spin-off "Wolverine". A full-length copy of the film was leaked onto the Internet. The columnist, Roger Friedman, admitted that he downloaded the film and watched it in order to write his review. What was he fired for? Unethically reporting his review? I don't believe that Friedman broke any rules or policies. He watched the leaked film, but he did not break copyright laws by watching the film. Sure, it is debatable if his actions were ethical. Roger was a veteran columnist at FOX. A review is just an opinion, which is used to try to influence others. He says that the movie is greater than expected. The FBI is investigating the leaked film. I cannot understand how Roger Friedman lost his job for a review of a leaked film. Most media outlets would love to have the first review of a film. Friedman only acted upon the opportunity. Please, tell me what you think.

So serene

The breeze blows through the tops of the trees. The sun is shining down upon the earth. Meanwhile you are on your knees begging to prove your worth.
As iron birds fall from the skies men, women and babies cry.
Have we done something to deserve this pain? We bleed from our eyes and swell in our brain.
As the world is brought to its knees there is no saving these people or listening to pleas.
The world is quiet now and so serene. Now that humans are gone, what will this mean?
